Australia offers Migration Visas that allow individuals to return to or maintain their permanent residency in Australia, as well as pathways to citizenship for eligible individuals. Here’s a brief description of the relevant migration visas:

Resident Return Visa

The Resident Return Visa (RRV) allows current or former Australian permanent residents or citizens to travel in and out of Australia while maintaining or regaining their residency status. There are two main types:

a) Resident Return Visa (SC 155 & 157)

These visas are for permanent residents whose travel facility on their permanent visa has expired or is about to expire. The Subclass 155 is the most common, but the Subclass 157 is for individuals who don’t meet the usual residency requirements.

b) Resident Return Visa (SC 157)

The Resident Return Visa (Subclass 157) is issued for those who need to leave Australia but haven’t been in the country long enough to qualify for the Subclass 155 visa. This visa is valid for 3 months and is often a short-term solution for residents needing to travel but who don’t meet the usual criteria.

c) Resident Return Visa (SC 155)

The Resident Return Visa (Subclass 155) is issued to individuals who have been permanent residents for at least two of the past five years or have compelling reasons for their absence from Australia. This visa is generally valid for up to 5 years and allows holders to travel in and out of Australia freely.

Becoming an Australian citizen allows individuals to enjoy full rights and benefits, including voting and receiving full social security benefits. To apply for Australian Citizenship, applicants need to meet the residency requirements, which generally include:

👉Living in Australia for at least 4 years on a valid visa, with at least 12 months as a permanent resident.

👉Not being absent from Australia for more than 12 months during the 4-year period and no more than 90 days in the last 12 months before applying.

These visas and pathways allow permanent residents to maintain their residency status and offer a path to full citizenship, providing long-term security and full access to Australian benefits and rights.
